DIY Holiday Decor

I finally got around to decorating my house for the holiday last weekend and came across this project when looking for inspiration! It's adorable, easy, and inexpensive! To create this holiday accent all you need you is white chipboard, card stock or other heavy-duty paper, round items to use as pattern, red craft paint, paint brush, clear crystal glitter, spray adhesive, small wooden dowels or skewers, kitchen shears or craft knife, clear tape, hot glue gun and glue sticks, and candy-striped wired ribbon. First you start by tracing assorted sizes of glassware or small plates onto rigid paper and cut the circles out. Then draw concentric circles or swirling pattern onto paper circles with pencil and fill in the pattern with red craft paint to create a peppermint look. Once craft paint has thoroughly dried, cover painted surface with spray adhesive. Sprinkle a dusting of clear crystal glitter onto wet glue and set aside for a few minutes to allow glue to dry. Then cut wooden dowels or skewers to various lengths with kitchen shears and attach to the back of each circle with tape or a dab of hot glue. Finally, add finished candies to a vase to create a centerpiece and embellish with a peppermint-striped ribbon. That's it! Have a great and creative holiday!

DIY Halloween Decor

Halloween is such a fun holiday, and a fun time to decorate your home in an unusual way! I found three quirky, inexpensive, and easy Halloween decoration projects to do just in time for the holiday!

The first project is a spooky Halloween wreath! Following manufacturer's instructions, dye 5 yards of white pom-pom trim. Rinse and tumble dry. Cut the pom-poms off of the braided trim. Hot glue each individual pom-pom to an 8-inch foam ring. Next, hot glue wiggly eyes in varying sizes randomly onto the wreath. Fold a length of ribbon in half. Loop the folded ribbon through the center of the wreath and pass the ribbon ends through the ribbon loop. Tie the ribbon tails together to make a hanger.

You can create this adorable table centerpiece using either white or orange mini-pumpkins. Start by spraying your pumpkins with a clear acrylic varnish. This allows paint to stick to the pumpkins. Print out Halloween shapes and cut them out. Trace the shapes on the pumpkin using a permanent marker. Next, use black acrylic paint to fill in the design. Spray a final layer of clear varnish. Add the flying bats by cutting out bat shapes from black cardstock. Give them the flying affect by taping them to floral wire and sticking it into the pumpkin.

This beautiful centerpiece of chartreuse spider mums is accented with holiday candy corn. To create it insert a smaller, waterproof container filled with florist's foam and flowers inside a glass vase. Fill the space between the two vases with candy corn. You could also add other spooky holiday candies, like eyeball chocolates.

So there you have it, three easy holiday decorations! Remember to have fun and be creative this Halloween!
