The recent release of "Oz: The Great and Powerful" is inspiring people to take their next birthday or special event "over the rainbow" with an Oz-inspired party.
To bring the magic of "Oz" from the big screen to your celebration doesn't take much more than a little bit of creativity and three clicks of your ruby red slippers. Celebrity event planner Nicole Hirsty and Jennifer Adams shows you how.
For Children's Parties
When decorating for a child's birthday party or even a movie viewing event at school, consider focusing on more of the iconic elements of the "Land of Oz", such as the yellow brick road, ruby slippers and even the blue gingham pattern of Dorothy's dress.
Yellow Brick Road Centerpiece
Bring the yellow-brick road to your tabletop by simply painting a few bricks yellow or using yellow paper and placing them end to end along the table. For an added touch, pick up a few pairs of ruby slippers or even apples and place them on top of the bricks.
For pops of color, line the constructed yellow brick road with daisies or a flower of your choice. Daisies are easy to find and relativly inexpensive.
"There's No Place (Setting) Like Home"
From a name card with a red shimmering shoe design to even a lollipop with the child's name written on a tag, it is easy to take dinner or cake time to a whole new "Oz" level.
For Adult Parties
When decorating for a more adult or formal event, consider pulling inspiration from the Emerald City.
Emerald and Gold
Thread elements of the the two most popular colors of Oz, emerald and gold, throughout the table. One way to do this is to use emerald table linens with a gold charger or place setting.
Add Shimmer and Glam
Clear vases with yellow flower arrangements help to carry the "Emerald City" feeling throughout the table. Add a few candles to further the sparkle and shimmer of the table arrangement.
These are just a few ways you can incorporate a touch of "Oz" into your next event. The main thing is to get creative and have fun with the Hollywood-inspired theme.
