Live like Lincoln Did: Decor Ideas from the Victorian Era

Today (February 12th) is President Abraham Lincoln’s birthday and to celebrate, we're looking at 19th century design styles for home inspiration.  The Victorian era gave us a lot of beautiful architecture and decor, from Victorian style homes to ornate gilded mirrors and classic wingback chairs. But how do you work that type of decor into your current home? We're glad you asked!

1. Take your Appliances Back in Time

Appliances are a fun way to create an antique look in your home, although that requires a good bit of overhaul on your current setup. This antique looking gas stove from Heartland is a great find for taking your home to another era.

2. Update your Lighting

Current lighting fixtures come in an array of styles, and you can find great vintage looking lighting options for your dining or living room from retailers like Rejuvenation, where we found this one!

3. Mirror the Era

Golden or gilded ornate mirrors were very popular in the 19th century, and having a standing mirror like this one above your dresser or a vanity table can add a little touch of the Victorian era to your home almost effortlessly.

What's your favorite time period and how do you work those design elements into your home? Let us know in the comments!
