Have your kids help too, and make an entertaining afternoon of it! Cupcakes can be as easy as you want or a little more involved, depending on how much you want to do.
Better Homes and Gardens' website recently posted an inspiring article and some wonderful photos on cupcake decorating ideas! Check out the "Halloween Cupcake Decorating" article here!
Buy pre-made cupcakes in the colors or flavors you want, and put the final decorating touches on yourself. Get bigger cupcakes and some cute tiny ones. Check out the candy sections as well as the baking aisle at the grocery store and go wild. What looks like an eyeball, teeth or fur? Bones? Spider legs? These pumkin stems are made of pretzel sticks!
If you're really creative, you may want to find some fondant, which is a type of frosting that is stiffer than normal and you can roll it out into a very smooth sheets. The ghost cupcakes shown here are covered with sheets of fondant. Michaels and high quality cooking stores carries fondant. It comes in many colors or you can color it yourself.
Or you can make a version of fondant yourself. Here is a recipe that uses marshmallows! You will still need regular frosting as well, to use like "glue" to help hold your decoration in place since fondant is not as sticky as regular frosting.
Once you learn some of the techniques, you can have fun with different themes for other holidays as well!
Until next time!
