Fall is the ideal time to change up the decoration in your home as the daylight hours shorten and your time inside your abode gets extended. Since home is the foundation for everything in your life to flourish, it is critical that to create a living environment where every family member will love coming home.
In short, it's time for you to "fall" in love with your home. Here are a few simple, easy tips to update your home decor for the season.
Candles give off a rich, warm and distinctive aroma. The home fragrance product also gives off a golden hue when lit that adds to a room's ambience. Some of the popular seasonal scents are pumpkin, vanilla, cinnamon or cranberry. If you're not keen on the open flame, there are several alternatives including diffusers, wax melts, fragrance beads and even electric candles.
Since you will be spending more time inside, make your living room inviting by rearranging your furniture. You can simply rotate large furniture pieces to give the room a new feel or pull the furniture away from the walls to create cozy conversation spaces -- particularly if you have a fireplace or a spectacular view.
Add Textures & Layers
Like bundling up when the temperature drops, fall is a great time to add "layers" to your decoration. The easiest way to do this is to trade out your brightly colored decorative pillows that adorned your sofa during the warm summer months for ones in orange, yellow or gold tones. Another way is to get a thick area rug, or swap out one from another room, to add color and texture to the floor. To build upon the layer idea, bring out some throw blankets to add to the sofa or lounge chairs to create a warm, inviting gathering space.
Lamps and More Lamps
Many people have suffienct lighting in the room, but you can never have enough lamps. Lamps can help exaggerate a mood or tone while creating warmth for any given room. Unique light fixtures can be found at garage sales, thrift stores or consignment shops at a discount. Already have an abundance of lamps? Change out the lampshades to create a new theme. White or yellow toned lampshades will glow softly while emitting light upward and down. They are also ideal for bright white-toned light bulbs for they warm the light. Dark or opaque lampshades only direct light up or down.
Celebrate the beauty of fall by decorating your home with natural elements. Gourds, pumpkins and even a display of apples in various sizes on the counter, hearth or in the center of your table can create a unique seasonal display. Or highlight the natural beauty of the leaves by placing them in miniture vases or stringing them across a mantel.
Give Your Windows Special Treatment
Adding color to a room can be as easy as changing the drapes or curtains. Consider swapping the curtains from a guest bedroom or office with the ones in the living room. Home improvement or super stores often carry curtains for every budget. Crafty? Consider making your own curtains out of a favorite fabric or even clothing your child has grown out of.
The most important thing is to have fun. Don't over think the process of bringing a bit of fall into your home. The more comfortable and at ease you are, the more comfortable and welcome your home will feel.
