Design Tips: Modern Ceiling Fans

Hooray, it’s summertime! According to tradition, Memorial Day, in addition to honoring those who have died in the service of our country, informally marks the first day of summer. Etiquette guides of old suggest that white shoes may only be worn between Memorial Day and Labor Day… well, whatever, just don’t wear them with dark colored hose and you won’t get a funny look from me.

As we gather together to remember those we know who have served, it sure can get hot and sticky. In Portland, except for a token spring day or two, nice weather rarely arrives until July 5th. But in other parts of the country, summer weather started months ago.

Time to consider a ceiling fan. No, not one of the dusty wicker 1970s specials. Ceiling fans have come a long way. You don’t have to settle for a noisy, wobbly piece of garbage you have to assemble yourself. Now you can get them in any style, from the most traditional to sleek and modern.

And they really do work. In the winter, a gently moving fan will return warm air from a high ceiling down to where you are. In the summer, the circulating air will feel cooler. New fans are quiet and smooth. Add a light or not… it’s up to you!

Aluminum, glass, bamboo, resin… so many options. Indoor and outdoor, too. And they’re not all high end. Even Walmart has an inexpensive version… you’re getting plenty of style, but you may be sacrificing on some of the high end features like balanced blades. But they’re fine if you’re on a budget.

Check out these handsome options from Modern Fan and Haiku, they’re as sleek as can be. They’ll fit right into the most contemporary environment you can imagine.

Let’s take a moment during our barbeques and celebrations and remember our heroes both here and those are no longer with us. Because of their hard work and sacrifices, we all can enjoy our family and friends, and contemplate luxuries… like ceiling fans.

Until next time!
