One of my favorite places in New York City is the Yin Ova Center near Union Square. Clinic director Jill Blakeway and her staff offer acupuncture, Chinese herb prescriptions and Mayan massages. The center is an oasis of calm and just entering makes me feel relaxed and happy. I thought I was familiar with the center’s menu of services, but I recently saw that the center is now offering V-steams. I was immediately curious.
Sure enough, the treatment is exactly what it sounds like. Jill likes to call it a “vajay-cial.” The treatment has been around for thousands of years and is now offered by Yin Ova’s resident massage therapist, Nicole Kruck. I got a chance to interview Nicole about the treatment and was surprised about just how many benefits the treatment offers and by just how simple the treatment is.
Nicole explained that she boils water then uses everyday herbs to create a tea that is put in a bowl, then placed under the patient who is naked from the waist down with a blanket wrapped around them. The steam from the tea rises up and works its magic. Different herbs can treat different symptoms like problem periods, PMS, fertility issues and more.
Take a look at the video below for more information about what herbs help with what issues and how you can do a v-steam at home.
