Warm, inviting, a true focal feature for any room, a fireplace speaks volumes in terms of tradition, comfort and atmosphere. Unfortunately many homes today lack a fireplace for several reasons -- budget and space being high on the list. Or the complications of a flue for every condo in a building… can you image the space that would consume?
As long as you’re using your imagination, think of a fireplace you can add as easily as hanging a piece of art.
If you want a fireplace and don’t want to build a chimney, there are many options for you to consider. Flueless and vent-free fireplaces are available in gas or propane-fueled, electric or even none of the above.
The new ethanol fueled fireplaces are easily refilled with either liquids, or even special gel packs. None require a traditional flue or chimney, they are designed to burn very efficiently and smoke free.
Gas and propane fireplaces may require a gas line, the electric ones can be mounted anywhere as long as you have an outlet, and the ethanol versions can be placed almost anywhere there’s space.
Most of these types of fireplaces are for primarily ambience and appearance. Some of the gas and propane versions put out heat, and are good choices for a room that could use an extra heat source. In contemporary or traditional styles, these fireplaces add that extra romance and warmth to even the sleekest white box of an apartment.
Until next time!
