This week I wanted to talk about keeping things simple and natural to add dimension and personality to a space. Instead of painting or otherwise covering walls or furniture, think about keeping the natural elements visible. And you can think outside the box with it too. Instead of a normal ceiling, cover it with beams or planks, add some dimension. Often ceilings are forgotten about but can be a great ways of adding a custom touch.
The exposed wood on this ceiling is a great example of how this idea can be put into existence. This concept can be put into use for many different materials, if there is a fabric that you like, perhaps some draping would add a nice touch and make the room feel light and airy. Add various layers or steps in order to create depth.
Feel free to tie the ceiling theme into the rest of the room or vice versa. If you go with draping, have some throw pillows made with similar gathers, or for wooden beams, get an end or coffee table with a similar color or grain. Even when keeping it natural, don’t forget to add some color in other areas and always make sure that the room reflects you. Another note when choosing wood is that there is a lot of really cool and good quality wood that has been rescued and recycled from other houses. Perhaps choose that over new wood. You will have a unique story to tell your friends as well as saving a tree.
