Finding inspiration is a significant a part of creation. Sometimes I know what will inspire a design and other times I find inspiration where I least expect it.
I recently designed a site for a new bar in an up and coming area in Fort Worth. Their vision was to build the type of place (and website) that Elvis and Johnny Cash would go to have a couple beers and listen to Willie Nelson. With a clear and unique vision like that, I knew where to go for inspiration: music. As I designed my take on the concept, I made sure to listen to Johnny Cash and Elvis to hopefully affect the look. Being a huge fan of both made the task even more fun. I also had to keep in mind that the site had to be somewhat modern to reflect the hip downtown vibe. The outcome was exactly what the client was envisioning and they were absolutely thrilled:
Nature is a great inspiration, as we all know. For the florist that we recently worked with, I was surprised where the inspiration did not come from...flowers! As I talked to the owner, I noticed how much she mentioned the ranch that she and her husband live on and how passionate she was about it. Along with the pictures of the gorgeous arrangements she has created, she sent pictures of her amazing ranch. Those photos were such an inspiration to me that I immediately contacted her and shared my concept with her. We went over the ideas and decided that she needed to include her ranch in the site to identify her personality and set her apart from other florists. We let the true beauty of her work come out in the photographs, but made the site about her passion, showing potential clients who she is and what she does. She fell in love with the design and was excited to share the website with her prestigious clients.
Inspiration can hit anytime! Whether you find inspiration or it finds you, let it bring out the best in your work!
