The World of Design

Can you imagine the world without design? Our whole world is designed for us, from the roads and street signs that got you to work today, to the grande to-go cup that you're sipping your non-fat, no foam, latte from! Design is beautiful, necessary and it solves problems.

My world of design, as a creative director and graphic designer, involves creating brand identities, website design and various types of printed pieces. Some of the new and creative designs out there and their execution are becoming interesting trends! Here are some examples.

Brand identities: Signature logos that look like handwriting are personal & fresh! A personal brand is a great place to apply this type of logo.

On PaulMcCartney.com, Sir Paul's signature is the site logo:

This one for tinybirdtoldme.com also includes a little doodle with the signature logo:

Website design no longer has to look like it's in cyber space! Many trends are leaning toward more natural or hand-crafted look, bringing a warmer look to sites.

The 2010 Masters Golf Tournament website takes us right where the action is, with a lush, vivid, photographic background with minimal text:

www.masters.com

www.xxico.com uses a beautiful watercolor look, a technique that I'm seeing more of recently:

A great trend in printing is the bringing back the use of letterpress. Letterpress printing imprints paper with type or image, which is then inked. A fantastic way to take advantage of this trend is to create personal stationery or as in invitation to your next dinner party!

Beautiful "C" Monogram:

These are just some of the wonderful creations designers bring to us every day. Enjoy the world of design around you!

"Not only are these sheets amazingly luxurious to sleep on but they also don't need pressing to look nice and crisp. I’m ordering another set!"
